PROTEST
BANGERS.

One protest song at a time.
What it says, what sparked it,
and why it still hits.

LOUD MUSIC.
OPEN MINDS.

Familiar anthems, forgotten deep cuts, and the occasional curveball. We’re here for discovery, context, and the conversations a good song starts.

Good music.
Uncomfortable questions.

Sometimes a song makes you want to turn the volume up. Sometimes it makes you stop and think. My favorites do both.

My taste in music is all over the place. Rage Against the Machine, Macklemore, System of a Down, Jesse Welles, Ren, an old Bad Religion track I haven’t heard in years—there’s room for all of it here.

Protest Bangers is a place to follow that curiosity. Each song post will start with a track worth hearing, then dig into its lyrics, the story around it, and the artist behind it. We’ll look at what the artist has actually said, and leave room for what the song brings out in us as listeners.

What counts as a protest song?

For this blog, it’s a broad invitation. Songs that push back against war, prejudice, greed, conformity, or the way people get treated. Some shout. Some tell a story. Some make their point with a joke sharp enough to leave a mark.

You don’t have to agree with every artist to find something worth hearing. The point is to listen closely, get curious, and discover something you might otherwise have missed.

Here’s what’s coming

A deep dive on one song at a time, with a few key lines, the context behind them, and the musical choices that make them land. I’m planning a TikTok companion for each featured song, plus a growing Protest Bangers playlist to keep the discoveries in one place.

We’re starting with some familiar names. Then we’ll take a few detours: overlooked tracks, unexpected genres, and songs that deserve another listen. The starter crate below is a first listening list; the individual song essays and TikTok videos are still to come.

Bring your ears. Bring your suggestions.

Got a song that belongs here? A line you hear differently? Some history I should know? Join the discussion. Tell us why a track matters to you, and include a source when you have a correction.

The blog is free to read. Optional support will help keep it going once a contribution link is ready. In the meantime, listening, sharing, and recommending a song all help.
